For the Classic Movie Buffs: Vera-Ellen is rather pudgy.
Every year around the holidays, I really go heavy on the Christmas entertainment. I own all the major movies/TV specials, and I pretty much play them relentlessly until midnight on Dec. 25. One film is particularly near and dear to my heart, and the season just isn't the same unless I watch it at least seven to 15 times. That movie, is the sugary sweetness that is White Christmas, starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney (George's Auntie). If you haven't seen it, you must. It's guaranteed to melt the coldest of hearts.
However, in the spirit of this blog, I couldn't help but notice that the film's fourth star, Vera-Ellen was looking large there on the screen. I just couldn't believe it. This chick must have porked up to almost 84 pounds for this movie. How shockingly disgusting!
I almost can't imagine how the gents in the movie were able to lift her in the air. If she gained any more weight, we might not be able to make out all 12 pairs of her ribs.
Vera was so heavy that the backup dancers had to throw her down the stairs before their wrists broke.
But, Vera-Ellen and her obesity aside, everyone should watch this movie. If nothing else, you'll have a better understanding of this classic Clark Griswold quote from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation:
"Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas ... no, NO! We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're going to press on, and we're going to have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny F%ckin' Kaye!"

This is a joke right? That girl is annorexic.
Nope. I think she's fat (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
Bigger than a double wide trailer.. Disgusting..
Love the movie! A real classic!
I must agree that Vera is a bit chunky. I guess she's lucky she danced "some" of her weight away.
Seriously, though, she needs to EAT A SANDWICH!
She needs a Thigh Master!
How did Anonymous not understand this wasn't real. Really? Anyway, great post. "White Christmas" is a true classic. Love it!
I read she really was anorexic. For all her success, her personal life was rather sad. At least she'll always be a bright star in "White Christmas."
Personally, I've always liked Betty more. She had a much better body. Judy legs are so thin and disgusting looking.
Go, Betty! The sad thing is, according to the movie, the four main stars would all have outstanding warrants in Florida. Ah! The fantasy that is Hollywood!
